About Balance Volleyball CLub

More Than Volleyball. A Different Way to Develop Athletes.

Balance Volleyball Club was founded in 2014 by Patty Langanis with a simple belief: young athletes should be able to pursue excellence without having to give up the rest of their lives to do it.

After decades as a player and coach, Patty had seen the demands placed on young volleyball athletes continue to grow. Year-round practices, tournaments, strength training and competition can create incredible opportunities—but they can also lead to overuse injuries, burnout and athletes losing the joy that first brought them to the sport.

Patty created Balance to offer a different approach.

The name Balance represents the philosophy at the heart of the club: developing serious, competitive athletes while also giving them the freedom and space to be kids, explore other sports and interests, take care of their bodies, and simply enjoy the game.

We believe that an athlete doesn't have to choose between being committed to volleyball and having a life outside of volleyball. In fact, we believe that balance can make an athlete better.

The Heart Behind Balance

Patty Langanis brings more than 20 years of coaching experience and a lifetime of experience as an athlete to Balance. Her own playing career began as a three-sport athlete at Sturgis High School in Michigan, where she learned firsthand the value of competing in multiple sports, developing different skills and being part of a team. She was later inducted into the Sturgis High School Hall of Athletic Fame in 2013.

Patty continued her playing career at the collegiate level as a setter for the University of Iowa.

Her coaching career has spanned decades and multiple levels of the game. She has coached with River City Volleyball Club in Iowa, served as a freshman head coach at Iowa City High School, coached at Thornton High School and spent 21 years with Sky High Volleyball Club. She has also coached at Cary-Grove High School for 27 years and at Dundee Crown High School.

Through all of those experiences, Patty developed a deep understanding of what young athletes need—not only to become better volleyball players, but to grow into confident, resilient and well-rounded people.

Why Balance?

Balance was born from Patty's desire to do things differently.

She recognized that the best athletes need time to recover, opportunities to explore other sports, and room to develop physically and mentally away from constant competition. An off-season shouldn't mean an athlete stops improving. It should mean they have the opportunity to develop differently.

That philosophy remains at the center of Balance.

We want athletes to leave Balance not only as stronger volleyball players, but as people who understand how to work hard, take care of themselves, overcome challenges and find joy in what they do.

Because volleyball is important—but it is only one part of who an athlete is.

Balance was created to help athletes find that difference. And that belief is still at the heart of everything we do.
